Retreat F.A.Q.

What do I need to bring to the classes?

  • A computer (laptops are easier but some people do bring their desktops) with any version higher than Adobe Photoshop 7 or Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 installed on it.
  • Various digital pictures of your liking.
  • Paper and a pen for taking notes (unless you'd rather type the notes! :-)

What if I don't currently have a copy of Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Photoshop Elements?

You can download a trial copy straight from Adobe.com. The trial is only good for 30 days, so be sure to install it only within a few days before the retreat!
Download Photoshop Elements 9 Free Trial

What are the classes like?

Each class will be taught with an instructor in the front of the room. Several teacher's assistants will also be around the room to help those that need extra help. Students will watch what the teacher does on the projector screen before practicing on their own computers.

Are there classes for people who don't know anything about digital scrapbooking?

Yes, if you are a beginner, sign up for our beginner classes where you will learn all of the basics of digital scrapbooking while creating various digital projects. Beginners will eventually be able to take the more advanced classes. Each class will have several teacher's assistants around for those who need extra help.

Class Descriptions

Camera Crazy!
Instructor: Alisha Shaw

Teach me to use my DSLR
You bought the nicer camera but you aren't completely sure what all it can do. Get the most out of it with by learning what the modes and functions mean. Must have a Digital SLC camera for this portion.

Get me out of AUTO!!
Whether you use a point and shoot or a DSLR camera, you can take your pictures to the next level by getting creative with your modes and learning about angles, how close is too close and the rules necessary to make your shots look professional. If you attended the EXTRA MORNING CLASS this one will allow you to practice and add the creativity you need.

To The Computer
Now that you have some great pictures, we all want to give them a little more umph in Photoshop. We'll download them, correct exposure, talk about formats, correct color, color pop and more! You'll need your camera and any version of Photoshop CS 3.0 or Photoshop Elements 5.0 or newer.

Photoshop Me
You have all asked for it....make me thinner, swap a head, make my teeth whiter and more! We'll get into the additional fixes we all like to see with our pictures.

Come Shoot With Me
We will have models and practice our skills. We will look for good lighting, talk about posing and how to get kids to act naturally in front of the camera. You'll each have a chance to take shots and then you can work on them at home and ask questions at your 30 minute one-on-one session.
